Adlatitude is an idea. The idea that we all need to leave our comfort zones and experiment with something new in order to really understand and interact with the world around us.
My name is Andre Deutmeyer. I am a part-time English Instructor at Chungdahm Learning in South Korea. I also serve as an Editor for Master New Media International, a web publishing company focused on helping independent web publishers leverage new media technology to enhance virtual collaboration, productivity, and reach.
I have been teaching English now for nearly two years. In that time I have realized that there is a great void between the way children are taught today and the way that they learn.
The way I teach is exactly like it was when I was in school. There has been no significant change in the last decades in how we teach our children. And in that there must be someting wrong. Look around and you can see how fast the world is changing. Look around and you can see that how our children play and communicate today and how they did 10 years ago are different.
Today we see a host of technologies emerging that have democratized the web - lending voices to the individual, made the search for information painless, and yet within our classrooms we still use 19th century teaching methods: Book, Chalk, Blackboard.
And it is with that problem in mind that I have created this blog: to bridge the gap and bring 21st century technology to a 20th century classroom. To that effect, in addition to this blog, you can track my projects at Playing with Words - a blog chronicling the progress of my students’ blogs and Chungdahm Learning Master’s Network - a social network for the Master’s level students at Chungdahm Learning.
